Ghana Launches National School Fertilizer Program to Boost Food Security

ACCRA, Ghana – In a significant move to bolster its agricultural sector and long-term food security, the Ghanaian government has initiated a large-scale distribution of 25,000 bags of fertilizer to 413 primary and secondary schools across the nation.

The initiative is a core component of the "Feed Ghana" program, which falls under the broader Agriculture for Economic Transformation Agenda (AETA). The strategic deployment of resources to educational institutions signals a shift towards integrating youth and school-based farms into the national food production strategy.

The distribution, managed by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA), is timed to support the minor farming season. Officials state the objective is twofold: to immediately enhance crop yields and to strengthen the role of school farms in achieving sustained agricultural productivity and national nutritional security.

Beyond the provision of inputs, MoFA has committed to providing comprehensive technical assistance to the participating schools. This ensures that students and faculty receive the necessary expertise to maximize the program's impact.
